Australia’s breweries and beer halls are putting the country on the map as a top-notch beer destination. We thought it would be fun to chat with Carly an up and coming beerstagrammer who has added a touch of sex appeal to the craft brew industry. She has the brains, the looks and the goods to make you fall in love with the next great craft beer. Checkout her full interview below and hop onto the gram and give her a follow.

Carly, let’s kick things off with you telling us a little about yourself and how you found yourself in the world of beer?

C: I’m Carly. I’m 27, I have two young girls and I live in the beautiful Adelaide hills. I’m currently building an off-grid home run by solar, rainwater & fire.

I’m on 130 acres here and the views you see on my Instagram profile are the views from my back deck. I love riding motorbikes and getting my heart racing. I was first introduced into craft beer when my fiancé at the time handed me a beer and said “wow try this” so I did. My reaction was the same “wow”. It was the formally “Jedi juice” – now “J- Juice” by hop nation, an Australian craft beer company.

We love how you bring flare and sexuality to the beer industry, which was once a pretty boring space. What do you think about the lack of sexuality in our society these days. If you could change the world’s view, what would you like to see first and foremost?

C: I started Pretty.good.beers for fun. It was a way I could express myself creatively with like-minded people. I was in a bad head space, and I was quite depressed when I started to get involved in the craft beer community. I will talk about this more in October.

I look at the ‘sexual side’ of my page as a little cheeky and more of a business tactic. Sex sells beer. Instagram is massive now; it influences what we do.  Instead of risking a bad beer, bad experience, we now google them, we search them on Instagram, and we look at the venue, the food, we look for reviews and trusted opinions.

How do you find a balance between work and life?

C: Haha!  I’ve always worked in hospitality & I think anyone who works or has worked in the industry know what the hours can be crazy. Half f my life I think I would wake before lunch, work my shift & finish in the early hours of the morning and be far too awake to sleep so I would drink. I’d work weekends, afternoons & holidays. Being able to “work from home” via Instagram has been great, being able to choose a couple of hours here and there and no more weekend or holiday work.

Who or what gives you the most inspiration?

C: Tammy Hembrow is a big inspiration for me. She is an Australian Instagrammer. She got pregnant young and is now 27 with two kids and has built herself an empire of her own. She’s an absolute girl boss.

I’m also super inspired by mental health and the environment.

I’m not sure how yet, but I want to make a positive impact on the mental health scene.  I believe we need to educate children and adults on how to look after our mental health and to learn self-care before these things become an issue for ourselves.

Mental health is currently dealt with very poorly in our health system (South Australia) (talking from experience) and I want to help change that for the people that need it. It’s hard to seek help and when we do there needs to be the right services and tools there to help us.

General words of wisdom you live by….

C:    Quotes I live by:

“Growth happens when things become uncomfortable”

“Be kind”

“Enjoy the little things in life”

“Be present”

What advice would you give craft beer breweries or beer companies looking to use the Instagram social media platform to grow their brand’s image? Would you give the same advice to craft brewers as you would to the established players in this market?

C: My advice to craft beer breweries; Make it fun. People love to engage. For new players, send your products out, make it fun.  Make it a vibe that people want to buy into. Be good to everyone. Stay true to you.

Where do you see this industry 5 years from now? 10? Has Covid made a major impact on the growth of craft breweries or has it opened the floodgates for more craft products being released.

C: The industry in 5 years… 10…. it seems so unpredictable now.

The craft beer industry is still in its early days herein Australia.

We’re going to see bigger and bolder beers, more experimental beer, and more craft breweries.

COVID has had a massive impact on our industry here in Australia. Brig craft beer festivals have been cancelled; beer released have been without the advertisements from festivals. Companies have lost so much money; some can only sell ‘take away.’

How often do you take a break from social media to recharge?

C: How often?  Not as much as I should yes, but my page is rapidly growing, and I feel like I should ride the wave while it’s rolling. That’s what’s I’m going to do. I own land. I’m always riding my motorbike, walking the dogs, in my veggie garden or building rock walls around my newly built home and garden.

Let’s get personal. What are some of the most important things in your life?

C: The most important things in my life.; My two girls, Ruby and Daisy (3 & 5) and looking after the environment & its inhabitants

Should we be on the lookout for any fun projects soon?

C: Oh definitely! I’ve just started to collaborate with a few big Australian bands and a couple of American names also. I’m super excited for the future. You can keep an eye out on my Instagram as well as my YouTube and TikTok accounts. I have big plans for the future & I wouldn’t be in this position without the love and support of my followers 💕
