Drop it like its hot. Checkout this hot interview with a hottie Kerry aka @kurryious.

Kerry please tell us who you are.

KG: I am a 24-year-old hair stylist, makeup artist, business owner, and model. Being Taiwanese and Mexican I grew up with a mash of two drastically different cultures. I am fluent in Spanish and currently studying Mandarin. Besides my careers that I love, I also enjoy cooking and fitness activities like yoga, Pilates, the gym, etc.

Wow that’s quite a resume. So, tell us how did you develop an interest in modeling and traveling respectively?

KG: Modeling is honestly something that’s always interested me! When I was young my babysitter and grandmother would always take pictures of me and say I was going to be a model. It’s kind of ironic though because when I was around middle school and high school aged, I stopped liking having my picture taken. I didn’t think I was pretty or that modeling was something I could do until the owner of a bathing suit company found me and invited me to their shoot! After that, it gave me some hope and photographers kept contacting me to work together! Now I’m in an agency and considering another!

Traveling also is something my family used to always do! We lived in a border town to Mexico in a different state before moving to California and would go to Mexico weekly. Additionally, every year we would take a trip somewhere! Taiwan, Canada, China, Oaxaca, Thailand, traveling lets you learn about different cultures, foods, and environments other than your own. I think it’s amazing!

How important are ethical standards for influencers in any genre they represent?

KG: I believe ethical standards are extremely important for influencers in any genre! I am a firm believer that the truth ALWAYS becomes known eventually. Therefore, one of the main standards I believe influencers should have is transparency. If they do not believe in a product or are advertising something false, their followers will find out. They will buy a product believing it’s great, only to find out it’s not. Then they will no longer trust the influencers who advertised this. Being an influencer, your stature and influence is greatly based on the relationship you have with your followers. You can’t have a relationship if the trust is broken.

When looking for a photographer to work with, what do you look for that seals the deal and makes for the best work relationship?

KG: If it isn’t something that is arranged with my agency, I look at their portfolio, the syntax of their email or DM, and if meeting in person, also how we vibe. I also occasionally will message previous models they have worked with for opinions on the photographer’s rapport. Currently, I have been modeling for so long that I don’t need to shoot with many new photographers because I have become friends with various photographers that I have previously worked with.

Being part of an industry whose only emphasis is on the outside characteristics of a person, how have you stayed grounded?

KG: This might be difficult to conceive but just don’t let it get to your head. The amount of likes and followers do not determine your personality or make you better than anyone else. Personally, I have never been there for the likes and followers. I post photos that I know won’t do well for my engagement because I’m there for the art. The photos for me are artistic creations with myself, the photographer, makeup artist, and stylist. I never thought modeling was something I could do or that the amount of people who follow me would ever be following me. I do not have many followers, but It honestly still shocks me.

Also just keep being you! I still have the same circle of friends that I’ve always had, and I still go do things I’ve always done. Like spending family time and volunteering at different places.

In a weird way I do believe being an influencer can affect the influencer positively! It provides many learning experiences and I believe it has helped me mature overall.

The world is big and full of wonder. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

KG: Japan! Everything amazes me about it! The food, the culture, the technology! You can find Japan on my bucket list.

General words of wisdom you live by…

KG: Two phrases I am very well known for, which I don’t know if they’re appropriate for this, are “fuck it” and “dump him”. There are many different connotations with “fuck it” depending on the way you use it. When I use it, I mean, “ok! Let’s go! Who cares!” Or “let’s do this! Who cares!”

Then the dump him is a little more self-explanatory. I am a very firm believer that women don’t need to deal with disrespect. Any time I have a friend who tells me issues they have with a significant other, which is 100% ok, people have issues with each other sometimes. However, if I feel like it’s something very disrespectful, hurtful, or I already don’t like their significant other, my solution is always “dump him”. Basically, meaning you don’t need to deal with this.

They say you are what you eat, what are you?

KG: I am potatoes! I can literally eat different forms of potatoes all day. I can eat them every day! Loving to cook makes it easy. I literally had potato soup right before filling this out. Some types I have are French fries, chips, scalloped potatoes, potatoes and eggs/ guevos rancheros, mashed potatoes, potato waffles, potato bread. Potato is extremely versatile and tasty.

How would you describe your philosophy on health and wellness?

KG: Health and wellness are important to me. I considered being a nutritionist, but I love Cosmetology more. I love learning about nutrition, and I have several books and encyclopedias on the health benefits of different herbs. I also used to be vegan and am planning to be vegan again. When you are, it’s important you have some basic knowledge about nutritional facts for you to be a healthy vegan. If you don’t, you can very easily become anemic and malnourished.

Best moment/memory of 2019? Anything you’re looking forward to in 2020?

KG: My father and sister picking me up from the airport in China with two bags of Hot Cheetos! I had just left a very toxic relationship and I was just so happy to be back with my family and in the land of Hot Cheetos. I really like Hot Cheetos, in case you couldn’t tell.

What’s your favorite thing to do in your down time?

KG: I honestly love makeup and hair. You can always catch me learning more by watching videos and other stylists. If it’s not work related then it’s definitely Cooking! I get this very odd joy out of feeding people and myself. My friends call me, “Mama Kerry”, because I take care of them and never mind feeding them.

Lastly, tell us about your dream collab, who is it and why?

KG: If it’s a collab with another model it would be Gabrielle Escubio I think she’s absolutely beautiful inside and out. I’d really love to meet her and have the chance to work with her either modeling or as her makeup artist.

A collab with another photographer would be Ana Dias, she’s an amazing photographer for Playboy. After you’ve been modeling for a few years, you begin to learn about photography as well.

Some of us even become photographers and that makes you an even better model because you understand the photographer’s perspective. Her shots are just great! Every time I see them, they make me think, “Man, i would love to work with her someday.”

A collab with a brand would be for Savage x Fenty! I adore how Rihanna made her brands to be very inclusive for all size just how her makeup brand emphasizes on having a great shade range and undertones. As a fellow mixed person, I would always have issues with clothing, lingerie, or makeup fitting me appropriately. So, what the brands stand for really resonate with me and makes it one of the top brands I would love to collaborate with.
